The Helmut-Hild-House accommodates the Central Archives and Library of the Protestant Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN), simply referred to by its acronym ZAB. The two components, archives and library, provide to church congregations, ecclesiastical organisations, societies and other institutions, as well as to general users support, concerning specific subjects and inquiries.

As the house of the Word and of words in general the Helmut-Hild-House welcomes all interested persons. This is part of the self-image of a facility of the EKHN. The archives, library and the historical researchers offer their services in the spirit of interdenominational understanding, reclaiming the past for the sake of the present and the future.

The introductory verse of the Gospel of Saint John – “In the beginning was the Word ...” – on the stained glass windows of the first floor of the Helmut-Hild-House interconnects these various aspects of the service to the EKHN and its people.
